Description

Svanelundsbakken is Denmark’s first passive house elderly center. It is situated on a scenic site in the center of Hjørring city.

Svanelundsbakken consists of 3 departments with 12 care homes in each department and one screened section for dementia with 9 homes. The building is divided into 2 main volumes, each containing housing units and as a central common area, a semitransparent building is located as a link with the main entrance. Between the housing volumes is an exciting green area to the south from which the users can enjoy the view. The property is listed as general care homes and the total economy remained within the target amount. The project has received Hjørring Municipality’s Architecture Award 2013.

BJERG Architecture was responsible for: user involvement, arranging of study tours and inspections, architectural advice, interior design, landscape architecture and passive house design and calculations in relation to building contact, design, passive housing design and professional supervision at the site of construction.
